City Council’s Committee on the Environment Passes Plastic Bag Fee

On Friday, May 1, Philadelphia City Council’s Committee on the Environment passed Councilman Frank DiCicco’s proposed legislation to place a $.25 “green fee” on plastic bags at all retail establishments in Philadelphia! The bill will be presented to City Council for a vote in the upcoming weeks.

    Yay! That is very exciting. The fee is definitely a better alternative to the ban. Where does this leave paper bags? We need to organize to get people to switch to cloth instead of paper if this goes through. Thanks to all who showed up at the hearing!
